Icacls allows for a lot more complexity when specifying permissions. Dir also take special arguments to sort and select what kinds of files and folders are displayed. Run dir in Command Prompt to list all of the files and folders in the current directory. So the actual command looked like: cacls pending* /e /p Jason:FĬacls.exe is actually deprecated, so I should have used icacls to change the permissions. Use switch /A followed by a letter code to display files with specific attributes, such as directories, hidden files, or read-only files. Since I was deleting the files, I gave myself full control over the files. The /e specifies to edit the ACL instead of replacing it and the P specifies the new permission. Open the 'File' menu and then choose 'Run New Task.' Type cmd or cmd.exe, and then click 'OK' to open up a regular Command Prompt. This gave me the permission that I specify at the very end since I specified my user name. Now I could go modify the permissions, but since I already have Command Prompt open… cacls path\to\folder\pending* /e /p : This successfully gave me ownership of each of those files. To change users permissions for a special registery key and its subkeys you can write sommething like this (copy the Subinacl.exe file in C:Cindowssystem32 to use it directly as a standard command in cmd ): Hi I just checked the code and it worked fine. I then ran the command takeown /f path\to\folder\pending* Cleanmgr: Launch the Disk Cleanup tool to clean up temporary and unnecessary files on your hard drive. I confirmed that the list exactly matched the files I needed to delete. External commands may be used under the CMD shell, PowerShell, or directly from START-RUN.
